LAHORE: Private school’s teachers and students still unsure about the announced holiday on Monday over Urs celebrations of Hazrat Ali Hajveri.
The City District Government Lahore (CDGL) announced a local holiday on the final day of the Urs – which will be applied at the district offices of the government, schools and colleges.
However, the Punjab Private School Association announced to keep schools open on Monday in wake of the midterm examinations being held at several institutions.
Parents lashed out at the association over the decision’s announcement and said that all information should be clearly mentioned and announced by both the association and the government.
They also demanded that the government should first make a proper plan and then notify the public via social media or the mainstream media – as this would be helpful for all the stakeholders.
All Pakistan School Owners Federation President Kashif Mirza told Daily Times that the federation only announces the national holidays and not the local ones. He said that all the major private schools will remain open – a decision they made themselves. He said that the federation has members from over 100 districts ‘therefore we cannot close all schools in all the districts’.
