LAHORE – Former prime minister’s son Ali Haider Gillani on Wednesday said that he is thankful to the Afghanistan government and their forces who rescued him in Giyan district of Paktika province in a joint military operation.
“Ali Gilani was rescued in Giyan district of Paktika province by US special operations forces and Afghan commandos in a partnered raid,” the Afghan media quoted a statement by USFOR-A as saying. “A counterterror mission was planned and launched after evidence of terrorist activity was confirmed.”
Talking to journalists at the Allama Iqbal International Airport, Ali Gillani said that the Afghan government gave sacrifices for a citizen of other country (Pakistan). “This is a good step and I am thankful to their government and their forces,” he said.
Ali’s mother and his wife can’t hold their tears at such a joyful moment when he landed at the airport at 12:20pm after his arrival on a special plane from the Afghan capital. The Gillani family, friends and a large number of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) activists received him at the airport.
Ali Gilani was handed over to Pakistan’s Ambassador Ibrar Hussain during a ceremony in Kabul. In May 2013, Ali Gilani was kidnapped by gunmen during an attack in Multan. His two associates were killed during the kidnapping which took place on May 9 as he was contesting for the general election from PPP-200 constituency in Multan.
